The knowledgeable move in this category is to ignore the sticker and look at the unit price. Skincare is sold in several sizes, and a reduced value size is frequently cheaper per millilitre than a reduced travel size, even when the smaller one shows the larger percentage. Twin packs and pump bottles follow the same logic. The other thing worth checking is the formula version: brands quietly reformulate, and the previous formula is often what's being cleared, which is fine if it's the one you already liked.
In Canada the beauty calendar is quieter than tech or fashion, but three windows stand out. Prime Day in July puts a lot of drugstore skincare on sale at once, Black Friday and Cyber Monday bring the bigger cosmetics reductions, and Boxing Week into January is when gift sets and holiday packaging get cleared.
What gets discounted: seasonal packaging, discontinued shades, oversized bundles and anything approaching a reformulation. What rarely does: a brand's hero product in its standard size, which tends to stay at list and get reduced only through bundles.
